This the new format for the forum I hope you like it. This is not just a face lift, there are a number of new features in this version of phpBB.

Take a look around and let me know what you think. Check out the "User Control Panel" a lot more personal control.

There are all sorts of new and neat features and as time permits I will explain the ones I know about.

I am still learning about this new format also so when you find a new feature you like, or don't like let us know about it.

Please post a comment or two in addition to answering the poll.

And by the way if you answer the poll question and change your mind later you may change your vote, just one new feature.

I have to get used to this, but I can't find a place to vote. How is this done now? The format seems very clean and simple, maybe too simple which is why I can't find what I'm looking for :-p . And another thing: where are the smileys? Are they gone permanently, or are you still tweaking?

God bless,

Mrs. R

I think I had something set wrong. The smilies should now appear to left of the reply box in the SubSilver2 template and to the left in the Prosilver template.

Voting should appear at the top.

Both should appear now let me know if they do not. Lot's of new setting to figure out.

Thanks for the feedback on the new format. Thanks also to those of you who voted, it lets us see how the new fomat is being received at a glance.

Just a few words about the new format and the reasons for changing.

This was not just a matter of changing the look of the forum although that did happen. We use a php based program for our forum called phpBB and we have been using version 2. Version 3 came out and it has many improvements mainly in the administration features. I switched to the new versions as soon as it came out for several reasons. (1) I fell behind on the updates in version 2 and switching to version 3 was a lot less work than trying to catch up on the updates. (2) The most compelling reason, version 3 has much better Spam blocking features. Spammers were driving me nuts but I am sure they will soon find a way around the new technology and be back. (3) Much of version 3 is written in html which is much easier programing language for me to work with. (4) Version 3 has some really neat features such as "View Active Posts" "View New Posts" and many more options in one's profile.

We have four different styles for the forum and you may change the style under "Board Preferences" in the "User Control Panel" feel free to check them out. Each style has a portal view as well as the index view. You may want to take a look at the portal view to see if it is to your liking it gives you a little more information than the index view.

We still have our chat room which you may enter by clicking on "Chat Room" in the header.

Last night I moved the Gallery over to the new forum and I think I have most of the bugs worked out. If you have time please login to the Gallery and let me know if it works for you, feel free to post some pictures for us. Your password and username for the Gallery are the same as the Gallery in the old format. If you experience any problems or get any error messages please let me know. The link to the Gallery is also in the header.

If you discover any new features that you like let us know.

One last request, if you have not voted yet please submit your vote at the top of this page. Thank you.

Hi Cal,

I like the look of the new forum, but miss the thread titles on the main Towerwatch page.

Thanks for all your hard work on this!

Offer to translate some of the articles on Towerwatch into Spanish still stands!

Jay
